ABUJA—THE National Working Committee, NWC, of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will meet today to brainstorm on proposed guidelines for the party primaries for presidential primary election and for all elective offices.

The PDP’s meeting, a source told Vanguard became imperative as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had fixed presidential primaries of the various parties for between October 2 and December 11 while campaigns for the election will commence November 16, even as the dates are in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

According to a source, at the meeting, the national leadership of PDP will come up dates for presidential, governorship primaries as well as that of State Houses of Assembly, Federal House of Representatives and that of the Senate, just as  fees to be paid for expression of interest/ nomination forms by aspirants would also be discussed at today’s meeting.

It is also expected that at today’s meeting, the leadership of PDP discuss dates for the special national convention where the appointment of the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who took over from Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as PDP National Chairman, January 20, 2014 would be ratified at the national convention slated to hold this month.
It will be recalled that Muazu’s appointment was endorsed by the 64th National Executive Committee, NEC meeting at Wadata Plaza, PDP National Secretariat.

It would also be recalled that the PDP Deputy National Chairman, Prince Secondus, who presided over the election of Alhaji Mu’azu, quoted section 47 (6) of the party’s constitution which empowers NEC to elect a new official to fill vacancy created by the resignation of an elected official. The motion for the nomination of Muazu  was moved by the Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, and was seconded by the Senate Leader, Senator Victor  Ndoma – Egba.
