OSOGBO — The Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its main rival, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will today inspect the electoral materials used for the August 9, 2014 governorship poll at the state’s headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
The development followed the reliefs granted both parties by the Osun Election Petition Tribunal, adjudicating complaints from the results of the gubernatorial election, won by Governor Rauf Aregbesola, of the APC.
According to a letter, with reference no INEC/OS/EP/226/VOL.III/ 403, signed by the administrative secretary of INEC, in Osun, Mr. Oladipo B. Oladapo, “the commission has fixed September 9, 2014 for both parties (PDP & APC) to simultaneously commence inspection of all election materials for the Osun State governorship election held on August 9, 2014 by 10.00am prompt at the Commission’s premises in Osogbo INEC headquarters, Km 4, Gbongan/Ibadan Road, Osogbo.”
It reads further that “both parties are by this notice advised to attend the inspection unfailingly as the Commission will release all the materials for inspection on the date stated above.”
It would be recalled that the three-man Election Petition Tribunal, headed by Justice I.M Bako, had during its last proceeding about two weeks ago, granted the prayers of both the legal teams of the APC and PDP, seeking the nod of the tribunal to inspect materials used for the poll.
The APC through its lawyers, including its National legal adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire, Kunle Adegoke, AbdulRahman Okunade and M. A. Okunade had sought the order of the tribunal to allow the exparte motion be conducted outside the pre-hearing session of the matter.
