ABUJA—THE Senate President, David Mark, yesterday told All Progressives Congress, APC, to stop propagating falsehood over the alleged plot to postpone the 2015 general elections, saying he never said there would be no elections next year.

This came as a pro-democratic group, Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency, CSJET, rose in defence of the Senate President over the comment credited to him by a national daily (not Vanguard) to the effect that elections will not hold 2015.

Senator Mark cautioned APC not to be raising unnecessary alarm and spreading false information to the public over the alleged plot to postpone the 2015 general election, as doing so would amount to expanding the frontiers of falsehood and doing a disservice to Nigerians.

Mark had, during a debate in the senate chambers on the insurgency in the North-East, cautioned members that had canvassed that the Boko Haram onslaught would derail the 2015 general elections, advising them to limit their comments on the insurgency and not 2015 elections.

However, reacting to a statement credited to APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, purporting that Mark called for the postponement of the 2015 elections, the Senate President described the allegation as “a bogus and blatant lie.”

While defending the Senate President, the Director of Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency, Mr. Folarin Odusote, described the publication as mischievous and misleading, adding that the Senate President had distinguished himself as “a pillar upon which today’s democracy now stands.”
