ABUJA—THE Presidency disclosed yesterday that the completion of projects across the country by the Federal Government boosted job creation by President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to the Presidency, President Jonathan’s insistence on the completion of projects in the transportation, power, agricultural and textile sectors had helped to create more jobs where many Nigerians have been employed, just as it described as worrisome, the attitude of some Nigerian youths towards employment.

Speaking with journalists at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation, Mrs Josephine A. Washima, who noted that total adherence to the principle of continuity in projects of past regimes has led to serious job creation, stressed that it was counter-productive when job seekers prioritise financial consideration before getting a job.

The Presidential aide, who noted that it was even more disturbing, especially in a situation where the prospective employee has no previous work experience, explained that it was against this backdrop that the President paid serious attention towards reducing unemployment in the country, just as she harped on the need for value re-orientation amongst youths in the country, with a view to making them employable.

The Special Assistant who urged Nigerian youths to take advantage of government’s employment generation activities to get out of unemployment, said that the right environment was being provided for a private sector driven economy in Nigeria, a situation she explained was in vogue in many countries.

Washima explained that, “Job creation is different from employment. A lot of people get that mixed up. Job creation are the opportunities that generate employment.”
