ONITSHA—The Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo, has predicted a forceful break up of Nigeria, if the nefarious activities of Boko Haram insurgents continued unabated.
He said although he was not praying for the break up of the country, the mindless slaughtering of innocent people in the name of religion by the insurgents might make it inevitable.
Bishop Nwokolo, who spoke at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Omagba Phase 1, Onitsha, Anambra State during a confirmation and the induction into the Girls Guide and Mothers Union last weekend, regretted that so many things would definitely be lost, if Nigeria broke up.
“I am not praying for the division of Nigeria because there are many things we have in common, but we are praying for true federalism since so many things will be lost if we are divided. But we can forsake all and go ahead to break up if it becomes very difficult to live together,” he said.
On the demolition of Oyolu-Oze Anglican church building at Nkwelle-Ezunaka on August 11 by yet-to-be-identified persons, Nwokolo noted that they were now waiting for the state government to respond to their demand, saying Anglican worshippers were not strangers in the state but important stakeholders..
