October deadline to Jonathan exposed Northern leaders, says IYC

WARRI— THE Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has said that the October deadline issued President Goodluck Jonathan by the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, to end insurgency in the North and produce Chibok girls without which he should not contest the 2015 presidential election, had confirmed the suspicion that northern politicians were the ones behind the insurrection.

IYC, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Eric Omare, said: “The statement has confirmed the consistent position of IYC and other well-meaning Nigerians that the insurgency in the North is being fuelled by politicians and some leaders of northern extraction to discredit the government of President Jonathan to make his candidature unpopular in 2015.
“We regard this as unpatriotic and the height of desperation for power by some northern leaders and call for their immediate arrest for fuelling insurgency in the north.
“We wish to state clearly that no amount of blackmail through insurgency or any other means would stop President Jonathan from seeking a second term in office in line with the 1999 Constitution.”
