ENUGU—The Enugu State Impeachment Panel, yesterday, ordered that another doctor from the state government-owned hospital should be engaged to evaluate the state of health of the embattled Deputy Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, who slumped while giving evidence before the panel on Wednesday.
Medical experts had after reviving the Deputy Governor at a private hospital on Wednesday recommended that he should have enough rest to enable him recover from his ill health.
Dr. Anisiuba, a consultant physician and cardiologist with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, who attended to the Deputy Governor said he has low blood pressure.
One of his counsels, Mr. Peter Eze asked the panel to wait till Monday next week to enable him recover enough to continue with his evidence, saying from what he saw when he visited the Deputy Governor, it was clear that he would be unable to appear before the Panel today.
Eze further told the panel that besides, Monday was not too far considering that the Panel has three months under section 188(7) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to carry out the investigation, adding that if the Deputy Governor was able to come on Monday he would conclude his evidence being their last witness and that they will close their case.
Chairman of the Panel, Franklyn Oraekeiyi, however, accepted the submission by the prosecution counsel that another government doctor should re-examine the deputy governor and report back today.
He adjourned further proceeding to today.
Other members of the impeachment panel are Maxwell Eze, Anthony I. Iguh, Fabian Oko, Perfectus Aroh, Martin Onyemuru and Mercy Anyim.
