Ebola: Bayelsa takes  delivery of protective gear

HEALTH PERSONNEL IN PROTECTIVE KITS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY (12/8/14).

Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, said it had taken delivery of personal protective equipment for its health workers as part of measures to check any outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in the state.

State Commissioner for Health and chairman, Task Force on Ebola, Dr. Ayibatonye Owei, disclose while declaring open a one-day training and sensitisation workshop for about 300 health and medical personnel in Yenagoa.
Represented by Dr. Wakiente Omubo, Director, Public Health in the Ministry of Health, the commissioner said participants at the training the trainers’ workshop were expected to go to the various local government areas and train other health personnel and community people.

The objectives of the workshop, he said include sensitisation of doctors and other health workers on identification, diagnosis and treatment; creation of awareness on mode of transmission, channel of reporting, prevention and control.
He said: “Medical personnel will use the workshop to learn how to use personal protective equipment in infection control, sensitise other health workers and create local and community awareness.”
