UMUAHIA—AHEAD of tomorrow’s bye-election into the Aba South State Assembly, the state chapter of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has accused the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, of planning to rig the election.
The election is to be held to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former occupant, Wogu Iheasimuo, whose wife, Nkemdirim, had been chosen by PDP to fly its flag in the election.
APGA state chairman, Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu, has in a petition to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Umuahia, alleged plans by the ruling PDP to rig the election.
According to him, PDP has hatched an insidious plan to manipulate the electoral process and influence the outcome of the poll.
He complained that one of the plans of the PDP was to ensure that counting of ballot papers and announcement of results were not done at the polling units.
Ukaegbu also alleged that the ruling party was planning to import non members of the constituency and empower them to vote with unclaimed or falsely manipulated voter’s cards.
APGA urged INEC to do everything possible to ensure there was free and fair election tomorrow to compliment the commendable feat the commission achieved in both Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections.
