UMUAHIA — A PDP governorship aspirant in Abia State for 2015 election, Dr. Alex Otti, has called the party to discard the zoning of the seat.
According to him, the party will be encouraging mediocrity and incapacity to thee detriment of the development of the state.
Otti told the state party leadership to place emphasis on meritocracy, capacity and credibility of the next governor of the state, rather than on zoning which might throw up somebody incapable of moving the state forward.
He said rather bring peace, the party was creating confusion and crisis with the zoning system it adopted and categorically stated that it would not work, as it was also undemocratic.
Otti, who spoke Wednesday evening when he met the state leadership of the party in Umuahia to declare his intention to contest for the ticket, told them to their face that it was important for the party to consider capacity.
“For us what we are interested in is capacity, meritocracy rather than mediocrity. It is important that what we are looking at is the capacity and credibility.
“I don’t believe in zoning but I understand it to be not dominating, it provides equity. But the zoning itself will bring a lot of confusion. Even though the party has said it, they have the right, even though they have given it to the South, the problem has not finished.
“You have started a problem. I will not fault it but what we need is our best, competence is what to consider. What we believe is that the party can say what they want to say because it is their right, we will do what and believe is right,” Otti said.
