Jos—The Plateau State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has decried incessant attacks of its members by drug infested communities in Jos, warning that it would henceforth deal ruthlessly with youths who engage in the nefarious act.

Addressing residents of Gangare community weekend in Jos at a workshop organised by the Centre for Advocacy for Justice and Rights, CAJR, the Command’s Exhibit Officer, Mr. Etsu-Banshi Daniel said youths who were high on drugs had repeatedly attacked his men who were on official assignments, leaving many of them critically injured.

The Exhibit Officer who enlightened the community members on dangers of drug abuse also urged the elders to assist the NDLEA in mobilising drug-free youths to preach the message of abstinence as well as rehabilitate drug adicts to become useful members of the society.

According to him, “Drug abuse has been a menace threatening all of us in the society and many youths are engaged in it. We always send our officers to clear known black spots but unfortunately, some of these youths high on drugs always attack them.

”We have taken a position to address this development and many communities are cooperating with us by calling on us to help them rid their areas of illicit drugs. We call on elders of Gangare community to emulate this and mobilize youths to clear the black spots where drugs are abused and we will help sanitize the areas and rehabilitate the youths.”

However, the CAJR Project Officer, Amos Kwatwa stated that the workshop was put in place to sensitize community members on the need to live in peace with others irrespective of their beliefs and religion.
