PORT HARCOURT— THE Nigerian Navy has evolved measures to ensure its rank was not infiltrated by unwanted elements.

Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, River State, NNBTS, Commodore Theophilus Okoro, made this known yesterday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while handing over two persons arrested for fraudulently enrolling in the Navy’s ongoing 2014 training for new recruits in the state to the state Police Command.

According to Okoro, the suspects, Shehu Alhasan and Yusuf Yakubu from Kano State allegedly used the same National Examination Council, NECO, certificates to enlist in the exercise?
He said: “On June 13, the Reception Committee for NNBTS Batch 23 trainees uncovered a NECO certificate forgery and impersonation by Yusuf Yakubu and Shehu Alhassan both from Kano State.

“Yakubu was registered on June 12 in NNBTS with credentials bearing Shehu Alhassan.
“Equally on June 13, Alhassan also came to register for the training at NNBTS with NECO certificate bearing same Shehu Alhassan.

“Both candidates had same NECO result bearing Shehu Alhassan with the same application number. Alhassan actually bought the form for navy batch 23 trainees’ (exercise), and the form for the Nigerian Air Force recruitment, but unfortuna-tely for him, there was a clash in the screening period.
“Alhassan could not go for both screening at the same time, and so employed Yakubu to come on his behalf.”
