Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his main opponent from the PDP in the August 9 governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore yesterday felicitated with Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el Fitri celebration.
Omisore, in a statement said: “It is note worthy that the past one month has been a period of penitence, sober reflections repentance and closeness to the Almighty Allah by all Islamic adherents all over the world of which Osun people make a significant part. Without any doubt, the period afforded all patriotic indigenes opportunity to pray for peace, tranquillity and development of the state and the Nation at large.”
Omisore enjoined Osun people “to continue in this spirit of Ramadan according to the teachings of the holy Prophet for the common good of all. As the August 9, 2014governorship election is drawing closer, I implore everyone to remain law-abiding as we perform our civic responsibilities.”
We should all eschew violence and resist any attempt to take laws into our hands. In conclusion, I’m seizing this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all ,most importantly the Muslim faithful who defied all odds to demonstrate their uncommon love, solidarity and support. The impact of your prayers are tremendous. It is my prayer that our collective aspirations shall come to reality very soon. I wish you happy and peaceful eid-el fitri celebration”
In his message, Governor Aregbesola congratulated Muslims for the successful month-long fasting and “devotion to the will of Allah which ended Sunday.
He said “the period which has elevated the spiritual consciousness of Muslims will lead them to take the right decisions on matters which affect their faith and their lives in an environment that is constantly threatened by thugs, rapists, assassins and mischievous politicians.”
He added that “those who have been faithful in their devotion during this Ramadan will come with clear conscience to sort out the evil from the good when they take a critical decision on August 9 whether or not criminals should capture power in Osun, or Allah’s grace that rained on the State since November 2010 should continue.”
