_LOKOJA — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has suspended four officers who invaded the premises of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, JAMB, on Wednesday, assaulting the agency’s staff and journalists in the process.

Disclosing this yesterday in Lokoja, state commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Dayo Adesuyi, said their suspension followed the directive of the Commandant General, who instructed that the erring officials be punished.

He said: “Following the ugly incident of Wednesday, the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ade Abolurin, has ordered me to sanction those involved in the ugly incident. So far, four officials have been suspended in respect of the incident.”

Adesuyi, however, said the agency invaded the JAMB office because of intelligence reports that the Boko Haram sect would strike in Kogi State through some private security guards.

“My officer in charge of the private guards companies, PGCs, went round on Wednesday to verify whether the security company at JAMB office was genuinely registered. While in JAMB office, an argument ensued which later led to fracas; even one of my officials was wounded in the process and is still receiving treatment.”

Adesuyi apologised to the JAMB officials who were assaulted, promising that the agency will take responsibility for the damaged door and hospital bills of the wounded JAMB staff.

He also solicited the cooperation of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in its bid to rid the country of criminality.
