ASABA — THREE men were, yesterday, arrested in the premises of a new generation bank in Asaba for attempted robbery.
The incident which occurred at about 10 a.m. caused a traffic jam as anxious motorists, passers-by, including bank customers struggled to catch a glimpse of the suspects.
Details of their mission were still sketchy at press time as there were two accounts of the foiled robbery.
One account said the suspects were about to steal a Camry car parked in the bank premises while another said they were about robbing the bank but were arrested by the security men guarding the bank.
Meantime, the Police have also dislodged a three‑man suspected kidnap gang.
State Police Command spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, said the incident happened last Thursday when a Police team sighted a Volkswagen Golf car occupied by three young men.
She said: “Suspecting the occupants to be either armed robbers or kidnappers, the Police team gave them a hot chase up to Mariere junction, Agbor where the suspected hoodlums were forced to abandon the vehicle and escaped.
“Investigation into the development is in progress while efforts are on to arrest the suspects and equally locate the owner of the vehicle.”
