ABEOKUTA— Pandemonium broke out, yesterday in Sagamu, when supporters of All Progressives Congress, APC, and Labour Party, LP, clashed over a road construction and secretariat.
Vanguard gathered that at least three persons sustained injury during the clash, which was reportedly caused as a result of attempt to stop rehabilitation works on a community road in Legunsen Community in Sagamu.
The Labour Party also accused the APC in Sagamu of taking over its Secretariat, claiming that the secretariat had been repainted in APC colours.
Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Deji Kalejaiye lamented that agents of the Sagamu Local Government attacked the contractors and the Labour Party members and beat them to stupor.
He said the APC supporters also vandalised vehicles belonging to the contractors as well as their equipment.
According to him, “the community road, which is in a deplorable state and has been impassable for several months due to its inexplicable neglect by the APC-controlled government was being rehabilitated when the APC agents stopped the works, attacked the people and vandalised the equipment.
“In another development, the agents of the All Progressive Congress in Sagamu has also sealed off the offices of the Labour Party and repainted it their (APC) party’s colours. They also threatened to maim and kill our members. The case has however, been reported at the Sagamu Police Station.”
