Ikechukwu Uche scored the winner as Villarreal beat Real Soceidad 2-1 on the final match day of the 2013/14 La Liga season.

The goal brought his tally for the season to 14. Unfortunately, however, the hotshot would not be part of the Super Eagles party to the World Cup in Brazil. Despite pleas from many quarters, coach Stephen Keshi ignored inviting him to the Super Eagles.

It was Uche’s 14th league goal of the season.

The 30-year-old has now scored in each of his last two appearances for Villarreal after scoring just once in his previous 13 games.

Yesterday’s win means Villarreal will compete in next season’s Uefa Europa League.

The El Madrigal club ended the season in sixth place on the league standings with 59 points from 38 matches.
