Igali

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Honourable Daniel Igali has raised alarm over the country’s poor preparation towards the forthcoming Common-wealth Games in Scotland in July.
Honourable Igali who is also the Chairman of the Technical Director of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) said if nothing serious is done now, Nigeria may likely be a laughing stock in the comity of nations.
“We are not adequately prepared for the Commonwealth Games which is two months away in Glasgow, Scotland. Coming in as the president of NWF last year, my intentions were that we’ll be able to get a better result this time around and improve on our last result. But we may likely not if we continue with this trend.”
He continued, “we are calling on the authorities that be to hasten preparations because, if we don’t, we’ll be a laughing stock at the Games.”
Wrestling is one of Nigeria’s strongest hold at international Games and contributes a large chunk of the country’s medal haul and this, Dr Igali said the federation like other sporting federations representing the country at the Commonwealth Games ought to have embarked on training tours to further sharpen their skills, but could not do that due to dearth of funds.
He said, “ we don’t have funds to undertake any camping now let alone training tour. Wrestling has never had any budget for any preparation, we have always drawn support from the National Sports Commission (NSC) because the federation has no fund”.
