Race to the finish… Nigeria athletes eking out a career at the Golden League.
As the AFN/Solid Works golden league enters its third leg, some of the leading athletes are hoping to improve on their performances when the meet resumes on May 10, 2014 in Akure.
Temidayo Oshunbanjo, who won in the Abuja and Ilorin Golden Leagues said: “I wish to post a better performance than I did in the previous events.
“Having clinched gold at the last two events, I have the confidence that I will make it at the final qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games.
“My main concern now is to remain unwavering and improve on what I have.
“ I want to remain on top until the All Nigeria Cross River Athletics Championships in June, which will serve as qualifier for the Games,” Oshunbanjo said. Eze Anayo, another gold medalist in 800m men in the April 12 league at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said he would use it to stage a come-back.
“Although I did not have an impressive outing in last Saturday’s event in Ilorin, Akure will be used to ensure a strong come-back.
“My aim is to remain steadfast in the remaining championships and consolidate my aspiration,” Anayo said.
