Uyo—Five members of a six-man robbery gang, alleged to have been dispossessing citizens of their belongings have been arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, in Akwa Ibom State.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at the DSS Command headquarters in Uyo, the State Director, Mr. Toma Minti, said the syndicate’s cases of attacks and daring nature of operation prompted an independent investigation and a manhunt for them.
Minti explained that investigation by officers and men of his command linked many recent robbery incidents to the gang, adding that the breakthrough came on May 14, following the arrest of and confessional statements of one of the members identified as Israel.
He said: “The most recent of their exploits were the attack on the residences of one Iniobong Otong of Obong Street, off IBB Way Uyo on April 27, and Itina Aniedi of niekong Udo Street, Off Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo.
“On May 6, the group struck at the office of one Soni Udom and Partners located at Umo Essien Street, Off Obio Imo Street Uyo, belonging to Soni Udom campaign manager of Umana Umana, a gubernatorial aspirant.”
