LAGOS — A special adviser to the Agege Local Government Area chairman, Adebayo‑Oscar Kamoru, who flogged one Mrs Adenike Aina Oshodi with a cane in Agege, has been brought before an Ikeja magistrate’s court over unlawful assault.
The defendant, 40, who resides at 11, Adebambo Street in Papa Ashafa area of Agege, was arraigned before Magistrate Abimbola Oshodi‑Makanju.
Kamoru is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assault and stealing preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on March 31, 2014 at about 2:20 p.m.
He said the incident took place at the local government premises.
Okoi also told the court that the defendant conspired with others to assault one Adenike Oshodi by beating her with a cane which has caused her injuries and pains all over her body.
The prosecutor further added that the defendants stole a wrist watch valued at N25,000 and N150,000, all belonging to the victim.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 409, 171 and punishable under Section 285 (5) (a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol 44, of the laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
Offenders are liable to 14 years imprisonment if convicted.
Earlier, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 28.
