The 2014 Channels National Kids’ Cup begins today at the Agege Sports Stadium with 16 schools from across the country competing. Lagos, the host state is presenting four schools.
Some of states represented at the competition include Kwara, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Osun, Rivers, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun among others.
The schools representing Lagos are Ebute Meta Primary School, Ago-Egba Primary School, Dr Teslim Elias Primary School and Toybat Primary School.
The competition which is the 6th in the series will see the teams put in four groups. The first two teams from each group automatically qualify for the quarter final. The semi final and final matches will be played at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere.
Speaking at the pre-event press briefing yesterday, General Manager, Special Duties, Channels Television, Steve Judo said “the idea of Channels Kids’ Cup was conceptualised by our chairman, John Momoh who wants all children, regardless of faith or circumstances to achieve their full potential.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Sports Enitan Oshodi noted that Channels’ effort was much more than just developing football. “It has to do with the development of the children and that is where our interest lies,” he said.
