Project Stretch, a non governmental organization is to empower 900 girls between the ages of 13 and 25 in Isheri Osun, Ikotun area of Lagos State with inspirational books and things that can add value to the ladies that will attend the “Girlempowered” programme on May 31, 2014.

According to the Managing Partner, Stretch Consulting, Omotola Fawunmi, the aim of the project is to host female professionals from different areas of specialization to educate young girls on why they must keep their shoulders high with a ‘healthy dose of self confidence garnished with good character and highly developed competence’.

She furthers, “The project which is a community based initiative has drawn supports from some corporate and individual bodies and is scheduled for 10am at Isheri Osun Community School, Lagos. During the programme, the participants will be exposed to mind building movies, group discussions, Sex Straight Talk and institution of a mentoring programme, all geared towards empowering the girl child.” She explained

Fawunmi concluded that there should be room for direct community based mentorship and an opportunity to connect to the peculiar needs of young people after they must have attended the seminars laced with many discussions and speeches.
