The Citadel of Learning, Federal University of Technology, Akure in Ondo State will host athletes from all parts of the country as the third of leg of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Golden League takes off this weekend.

According to AFN technical officer, Yusuf Alli, a large number of athletes are expected to turn up for the competition even as he expects impressive performances than the previous outings in Abuja and Ilorin respectively.

The national record holder in the men’s long jump also disclosed that preparation was in top gear to ensure that the competition is pulled off without hitches.

It will be recalled that junior athletes took over the podium at the second leg of the event as the likes of Divine Odududru, Ese Brume, and Akerele Omeza won their respective events, thereby leaving their senior colleagues to play second fiddle in most categories.

Oduduru won the 200m while the second and third positions went to Odele Tega and Briggs Tamunotonye respectively. Brume also impressed in the long jump as she beat her senior counterpart, Chinazom Amadi to second place with a leap of 6.40m.

However the battle for the N2million prize money will go a notch higher, following the absence of some of the elite athletes who are currently in the US ahead of the IAAF World Relays.
