I will send you out if … – Kutigi warns Delegates

By Henry Umoru

Conference chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi was stretched yesterday as delegates saw the other side of the normally convivial chairman over what was seen as the unruly effort by delegates to get his attention to be recognized at the ongoing National Conference.

As they struggled, often standing to get the attention of the chairman, Justice Kutigi was provoked and warned that he would send out of the hall any delegate that posed to be unruly.

Kutigi who normally dismisses distractions from delegates with laughter suddenly took a frown as the noise increased and warned that he would invoke his powers to ask any disturbing delegate to be excused from the conference.

Also yesterday, Kutigi chided delegates on time wasting when called to contribute on debates.

The warning came following the unending quest by delegates to add their voices on every issue.

Kutigi who called for caution on the parts of delegates, however  expressed worry on the penchant of delegates  for wanting to  speak on almost every issue, even as he advised  delegates to be mindful of the public concern over the apparent foot-dragging on the adoption of mere rule of proceedings.

He said, “Delegates I think we should be mindful of how we delay on the discussion of preliminary issues so that we can move to the more serious issue of debate on the President’s speech. Gentlemen I think it is high time we put a stop to this our unending observations and allow debates to proceed speedily”.
