ABUJA — AHEAD of the 2015 general elections, Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Ahmed Maccido, has said that the alleged aspiration of  Governor Magatarkada Wammako of Sokoto State to contest Sokoto North senatorial ticket against him was not a threat.

Maccido, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, told Wammako to forget the ambition as his time was up politically, adding that the governor would not be able to withstand the caliphate in any election.
Maccido explained how he refused to join Wammako to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, advising the governor to start counting his days in the politics of the state.

He said:  “If you see that your time is up in a particular place and your ideas are no longer needed, I don’t think there’s any need for you to stay there anymore.
“You have, as they say, overdone your stay. Do you understand that? As far as I’m concerned, this particular institution that is in place now in Sokoto is no longer in need of my services. So, I don’t think I need to stay with them.”

Maccido further stated that he represented the Sultanate in the Senate, an institution he said had been in existence for more than 200 years, which the governor could not sweep aside.
He said: ”I’m not here as Ahmed Maccido. I’m not sitting here as Ahmed Maccido. I have an institution that remains relevant and has remained relevant for the past 200 years.

“Even if I am not there now, that institution would still be there. Whoever is in this position would still be relevant. So, don’t think of me representing Sokoto, as Ahmed Maccido. It’s not me.”
