We ‘ve received 50,000 defectors in 6 months in Ogun – PDP

BY DAUD OLATUNJI

ABEOKUTA — Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, yesterday, claimed it had received no fewer than 50,000 members of the  opposition political parties in the state into its fold in the last six months.

Its Chairman, Bayo Dayo, who spoke during a state steering committee leaders’ meeting in Abeokuta, said the decampees were mainly from the All  Progressives Congress, APC, and  Labour Party, LP.

According to Dayo, the PDP in the state had its share of crisis and equally  went through a unique phase of intra-party squabbles that tended to divide it, further saying “After all reconciliatory  effort was sufficiently exhausted  and all ensuing legal litigations disposed off with and resolved in clear unmistakable directions, I am pleased to inform you that Ogun PDP is now united, strengthened and repositioned to perform creditably in the forthcoming general elections.

”We are glad to report that not only have our members remained intact despite our challenges, we have also received over fifty thousand members of the opposition parties that have  decamped to PDP from various local governments in the last six months.”

The state PDP chairman also announced that all the aggrieved party leaders that had suspended their active participation in the party activities were now back in the fold.

While speaking on the coming general elections in the state, the chairman warned  party leaders and  members against action that could divide the party.

“We  should not allow a situation where some of us will seek to divide us by creating other platforms  than the PDP. It is discomforting that leaders that have enjoyed all the opportunities the PDP can provide, now promote other parties and yet claim to support President Goodluck Jonathan or the PDP itself,” Dayo said.
