Nigeria is fast becoming a dumping ground for fake and substandard building and home furnishing materials. These substandard materials are usually imported from China and other Asian and European countries by unscrupulous Nigerian businessmen and their foreign collaborators. The rising occurrence of buildings collapse and fire disasters in the country, are directly linked to the utilisation of these fake or adulterated building components.
Gone are the days when people changed the doors of their houses because the designs are outdated and they want to install more modern doors. What happens today is that people spend huge sums of money to buy doors for their homes, only to replace them a few years later, because the doors are substandard.
Against this backdrop, a global player in the woods and furniture industry, Messrs Emelinks Nigeria Limited, has launched a campaign to curb wastes usually incurred by people who use fake or substandard doors in their homes. .
The founder of the company, Mr Solomon Chukwuemeka Nwadiogbu told newsmen in Lagos last week, that his company is offering premium but highly affordable and durable doors to Nigerian home builders. He explained the campaign against wastes was informed by what millions of Nigerians who utilise fake and substandard doors and windows go through on daily basis. The campaign tagged “kick against waste”, according to Nwadiogbu, is aimed at eliminating low quality doors and windows because they drain the pocket of buyers without value for money.
“The kick against waste campaign is aimed at eliminating structure finish of low quality doors and windows which tends to be a drain on the buyers’ pocket. The campaign seeks to bring to the fore appreciation of quality, presenting the very best of wood finish thus ensuring value for money,” he explained.
“We are passionate about the quality of materials in the country and the pain buyers go through in the process of replacement, hence the campaign. We hope we would be contributing our quota to rid the country of substandard doors and other building materials” he said.
Emilinks according Nwadiogbu, designs, constructs and sells doors and windows, with particular emphasis on solid wood doors. The company has classic solid wood doors, windows, wardrobes, office furniture, fully fitted kitchens and designer products in brushed steel and aluminum.
