ABUJA — A member of  the House of Representatives Committee on Power,  Ibrahim El-Sudi, yesterday, said that due to obsolete generating equipment in Nigeria, the power reforms might fail.

El-Sudi, who represents Gashaka/Kurmi/Sardauna constituency of Taraba State, also carpeted the Federal government for the haste with which it privatised the power sector.

Condemning the poor state of power supply, El-Sudi noted that most engines in the power stations were moribund, making it impossible for their new owners to utilise them effectively.

According to him, as a member of the power committee, I am very passionate about getting power because it is required to trigger development. Without power, the nation cannot move forward.

He said:  “We made some observations, having been to these companies, that the leeway in which this privatisation is taking place will lead the country to a doom.

”We have gone round almost all the Gencos and Discos in the country and I can tell you those engines and machines in production are moribund.
