ABEOKUTA—THE crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State deepened yesterday as a faction loyal to a former governor of the state,  rejected the plan to hold a re-run of the last Saturday wards congresses.

The APC in the state has been factionalesd for sometime.

At the last Saturday wards congresses in the state the two factions held parallel congresses across the state which produced two different executives in all the 236 wards across the state.

However, attempt by the State Congress Committee led by Ope Salami to harmonise the two factions hit the brick walls as a faction rejected the planned re-run of wards congresses in some local government areas of the state.

In its protest letter signed by a Senator representing Ogun East ,Senator Adegbenga Kaka under the auspices of the National Assembly caucus of the party in the state, the faction said it rejected the planned rerun of the wards congresses in some local government areas of the state after it had consulted with stakeholders in the party.

According to the faction, “on behalf of our teeming supporters, we completely dissociate ourselves from further breaching of the guidelines as released by our national office. The provision in the guideline is for an appeal to the Appeal Committee for adjudication on any alleged breaches and not for a rerun.

“ A situation where aspirants that paid the due nomination fees were denied of relevant forms while those that did not pay had unfettered access to the form cannot be said to be fair to all concerned.

Therefore on the guidelines provisions we stand. We therefore implore all our members to ignore any call to chaos and anarchy that the purported rerun is likely to cause”, the statement read.

Reacting to the position of the group on the planned re-run of wards congresses in some local governments, Chairman of State Congress Committee in Ogun State, Ope Salami  confirmed that the committee had received some petitions by aggrieved members.
