Fashion designers urged to embrace e-commerce

Speakers at the just concluded Fashion Business Workshop held in Lagos have called on designers in the country to take advantage of the opportunities provided by online marketing to enhance their business.  The one day event was organized by an e-commerce platform, YSGhubs in partnership with Harmony Fashion Designer Association and the Lagos State Tailors and Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, LASTFADAN.

Mrs. Nkiru Amadi, the marketing manager of YSGhubs said that online marketing is the best and cheapest way to do business in the modern world, stressing that the days of conventional marketing are over. She noted that Nigeria is blessed with talented designers but lack of appropriate marketing and distribution channels hinder most of them in making profit from the business.

“Fashion is trending and everybody is cautious of what they wear. Nigeria is blessed with talented fashion designers but sadly most of them do not know the best way in marketing and distributing their wares. In fact, very few of them do have the means to get a shop. With YSGhubs’ reach all over Nigeria and neighbouring African countries, we are providing the platform for them to market and distribute their products through us instead of the conventional show rooms which are limited,” she said.

On his part, Mr. Godwin Essien, the Creative Director of Godwin Green Coulture, who spoke on ‘designing with global appeal’, urged fashion designers to be up to date with trending styles.  He said fashion designers should not be limited in their thinking, imagination and creativity.
