LAGOS—The Anglican Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Adebola Ademowo has charged the Federal Government to provide adequate security for the citizens, lamenting the frequency of violent killings, kidnapping and other crimes going on across the country.
Ademowo, who said provision of security was a primary responsibility of the government, tasked the government to tighten security across the nation for the safety of the citizens.
At a briefing to announce the church’s 2nd Session of the 32nd Synod of the diocese schedule for Sunday, 4th to Wednesday, 7th May, 2014 at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina in Lagos with the theme: “Divine Intervention”, the cleric said religious leaders were doing their part to assist government in curbing security challenges confronting the country.
Lamenting the rate of incessant killing in the country, Ademowo described the abduction of secondary school girls in Borno State as barbaric, adding that majority of Nigerians now live in fear.
He said: “The church is praying that God should halt Nigeria’s looming descent into the dark age era_ insecurity, unemployment, worsening crime rate. All these are indices of under_development. We are suffering in the midst of plenty. The rich are becoming richer and poor are becoming poorer this is painful.”
