2015: INEC begins voters registration in May

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will commence registration of voters in 10 states across the country  next month.

The exercise would commence on May 25 in the affected states  and would be categorized under  Phase One. The affected states are: Taraba, Gombe and Zamfara. Others are Kebbi, Benue, Kogi, Abia, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom and Bayelsa.

The exercise would be preceded by distribution of permanent voters cards between May 15 and 18 in all the affected states.

This was contained in a bulletin issued yesterday by INEC.

The bulletin further revealed that the the information was obtained from  a Decision Extract released by the Commission following its meeting on Thursday, 17th April 2014.
The bulletin further indicated that although dates for voters registration in the outstanding Phases and states are yet to be released by the Commission, each Phase  of the exercise would be preceded by the distribution of permanent voters cards.

The  Commission further disclosed that the decision to stagger the  voters registration exercise and the distribution of permanent voters cards  was informed by lessons learnt by the Commission during recent similar exercises
in Ekiti and Osun states where governorship elections are scheduled to take place on June 21 and August 9 respectively.
