The 2014 edition of Social Media Week might have come and gone but the opportunities it has created for participants cannot be over-emphasised.
High point of the event is the one-day seminar that brought together key digital marketing, social media experts and influential personalities in Nigeria.
During the seminar, the Tintin Imevbore, CEO of iGroove Radio who was one of the moderators said that the event was to enable stakeholders in social media come together in other to chart new ways of mutual benefits.
Themed, “A connected Africa is the future.” The week was dedicated to the promotion of the social media all over the world and was therefore organised to be a whole week event in Lagos. According to the organisers, the week was billed to be the largest, tech, new media and business conference in Africa.
“Social Media Week Lagos is the largest, tech, new media and business conference on the continent of Africa. It attracts some of the continent’s most forward thinkers, brands, learner and creators, recognizing the importance of a connected continent while aiming to encourage collaboration.”
Furthermore, the week was organised to incorporate the different events of several organisations whose corporate activities involves the use of social media Nigeria as part of the week-long activities.
By this, different events are lined up to hold at different venues within Lagos in commemoration of the week. Paramount among the events was iGroove Digital Media Seminar on digital relevance in Africa at Freedom Park, Broad Street.
One of the resource people, Taiwo Kolade-Ogunlade, the Communication and Public Affairs Manager of Google Nigeria, while talking about trends driving social media said that social network is mobile and mobile is social network in order to explain that social companies are putting mobile at the forefront of users experience through mobile phones.
