PORT HARCOURT—A journalist with Wazobia FM in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Mr. Anthony Akatakpo, was, yesterday, abducted at his residence in Rumuekini area of the metropolis.
His wife, Mrs. Candy Akatakpo, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the kidnappers demanded N10 million when they stormed their residence at 2 a.m., yesterday, adding that they shot the husband on the leg before fleeing with him.

She appealed for his unconditional release, adding that the kidnappers bundled her husband into his vehicle, a Mitsubishi Endeavour, with plate number  LSD 871 CM.
Journalists in the state have condemned the abduction, noting that it was sad that anybody could kidnap a journalist.

“It is sad that anybody could contemplate such an act. We don’t have money. They should please release Akas Baba, as he is commonly known, unconditionally,” Osinachi Samuel pleaded.
Other journalists,  appealed for the immediate and unconditional release of the journalist, so that he can attend to his wounded leg.

The state Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Opaka Dokubo, enjoined the kidnappers to release Akas Baba. ” They shot him on the leg. They should please release him so that he can take care of his health. He needs to treat himself. It is unimaginable that this could happen to a journalist. They should please release him,” he said.
