Community leaders of 13 local government areas and local council development areas, LCDAs, in Lagos Central Senatorial District, have appealed to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing the district in the Senate to provide transformers and other electricity installations to the communities, saying, “this will help empower more teeming residents in the area.”
The appeal was made recently, when the former First Lady of Lagos State, distributed cash gifts and food items to over 130 traditional chiefs in the districts at the Lagos Island Local Government Secretariat, Zappa.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Baale of Oroke Town, Eti-Osa Local Government, Alhaji Rasak Folami, said though the gifts would go a long way in aiding the chiefs to cater for their needs, but the senator could do better.
Folami, however, urged Tinubu to embark on projects that would encompass the generality of the people in the development of the districts. Also, Baale of Medewe Community, Makoko, Yaba LCDA, Chief Stephen Aji urged Tinubu to distribute transformers and other electricity installations to the communities, adding “this will help empower more residents in the state.”
Tinubu, who was represented by the chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Mr. Wasiu Eshinlokun, noted that the African cultural system cannot be excluded from the harmonious relationship that had existed in larger part of the country, especially within Lagos State.
While noting that African cultural systems was crucial to achieve a better security in the country, she stressed the need for Federal and State Governments to strengthen its promotion and protection of African cultural systems, adding that “the role of traditional African culture cannot be substituted in attainment of better security.”
