PORT HARCOURT—NATIONAL Vice-Chairman, South-South zone of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Steve Oru, has said that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State will be welcomed back to the party.if he chooses to dump All Progressives Congress, APC.
He added that PDP will secure landslide victory in the next elections in the state, adding that Rivers State was a PDP state.
Oru, who spoke, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, said it was the resolve of the South South zone of the party that President Goodluck Jonathan should contest next year’s presidential election.
“The South South zone of our party urges Mr. President, based on his excellent performance, to contest the 2015 presidential election. The PDP in the South South zone is in full support of aspiration,” he said.
He condemned the Boko Haram insurgency in the northern part of the country.
Oru, who led other members of the South South executive of the party to pay a courtesy visit to the state leadership of the party at the party’s state secretariat, lauded the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.
Earlier, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah, said they were not disturbed by the exit of Governor Amaechi from the party. According to him, the party was firmly on ground in the state.
Meantime, the people of Ikwerre have expressed support for President Jonathan. Speaking under the aegis of Ikwerre Stakeholders, Prince Paul Wonodi said the Ikwerre nation will continue to pursue issues that will strengthen the unity of the country.
