Mikel with the Afcon trophy
*Says 2010 performance poor
*Yearns for more trophies with Eagles
Super Eagles and Chelsea of England midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed his zeal to win more trophies with the Super Eagles just like he is doing with his west London outfit.
Mikel, who only last month lost the CAF African Footballer of the Year award to Ivorian Yaya Toure is expected to feature for Nigeria when Stephen Keshi’s side battle El Tri of Mexico in an international friendly on March 5.
According to him, the Super Eagles need more warm up games to build a solid team ahead of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
“My personal goal is to make sure that I am part of a very successful team. I have won trophies with Chelsea and I want to win trophies with the national team as well,” Mikel told Brilafm.net.
“Until this happens, I won’t be satisfied with my international career. We need to prepare well, play friendly games, and try to make sure that we get a good team before the World Cup.
“We had a very bad outing at the last World Cup so we hope that in 2014, we can play very well,” he concluded.
Mikel was a key member in Nigeria’s trophy-winning feat at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in South Africa and would be making his debut appearance at the World Cup after failing to make the 2010 tournament due to injury.
