UGHELLI—WORRIED by the moribund state of Delta Steel Company, DSC, Ovwian-Aladja, Urhobo Political Congress, UPC, has called on the Federal Government to take more practical steps to revitalising the ailing steel company.
Speaking with newsmen after a meeting of the National Executive Committee and Elders Council of the group, its National Publicity Secretary, Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu, said: “We will reach out to the Federal Government and relevant agencies of government on how to revamp the company, which you know is a major institution for the development of the Urhobo nation and the country at large.
“DSC was the largest functioning steel company in Africa in the 1980s. Its employment exceeded 10,000 workers with a lot of multiplier effects in terms of contracts to firms. Several stakeholders came up with this meeting to bring the company back to life.
“In order to harmonise these views, a technical committee has been put in place to discuss the various views.”
