Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state yesterday tasked Councilors- elect in the 21 local government areas of the state to be team players with their Chairmen rather than scheming for their impeachment.
Obi was speaking at inaugural retreat, of the Anambra state local government on ‘Values and Leadership’ organized for the newly elected chairmen, their deputies and councilors at the Women Development Center Awka.
Obi said he was pitying his successor, Chief Willie Obiano who would on March 17 assume office as Anambra governor because Anambra people would blame him for everything that went wrong in the state whether he was responsible or not.
He noted that for him, he will take time to rest from the busy schedule of tending the state for eight long years after he hands over to Obiano, adding that Obiano will however be lucky that he (Obi) has done some job in the state and would have to start from somewhere.
He called on the elected councillors, vice chairmen and chairmen to ensure that they provide dividends of democracy to the people of their localities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice GU Ononiba congratulated Governor Obi on his resolve to conduct the election despite opposition, saying that that the seminar was designed to give the newly elected politicians focus on right values and service delivery.
He expressed satisfaction at the array of resource persons assembled by the governor to impact leadership acumen on the grass root politicians.
Delivering a paper titled; Local Government Chairman as a Gardener, Dr Okey Ikechukwu a motivational speaker, urged the newly elected politicians to see their election as call to service and not one to lord themselves over the people.
