PORT HARCOURT— LAWYERS, yesterday, defied Police order against public procession in Rivers State, as they marched to the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt,  denouncing the delay in the appointment of a substantive Chief Judge for the state judiciary.

Some of placards carried by the protesting lawyers, read: “Worgu Boms (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice) resign or follow the law”; “Even in military, there was Chief Judge,”; “NBA suffering and smiling,”; “Attorney General stop misleading,” among others.

Similarly, staff of the Rivers State Traffic Management Agency, TIMARIV, yesterday, protested non- payment of their four months salaries.   Some of the protesters who spoke to newsmen called for overhaul of the agency, saying same would inject life into the place.

The lawyers, who protested under the aegis of Forum of Concerned Lawyers of the Nigeria Bar Association, Port Harcourt branch, urged the National Judicial Council, NJC, to collaborate with judges of the Rivers State High Court to  act in line with the doctrine of necessity by appointing the most senior judge of the state High Court as Chief Judge of the state.
