APC speakers condemn Rivers crisis

LAGOS — Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji has expressed sadness over the current crisis in Rivers State as speakers from All Progressives Party, APC, controlled states met in Lagos, yesterday.

He stated that democracy should be allowed to work in the country, while taking a swipe at those he called “anti-democratic elements.”
In his welcome address at the parley termed Progressive Speakers’ Conference, Ikuforiji said that the on-going conundrum in Rivers State is anti-democratic.

While commending the progressive speakers for the constructive work, which he said they are doing in their various parliaments; he urged that they should not relent in their efforts to finding lasting solutions to the crises in the country.
Speaking, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Gambo Salau said that the progressives decided to come together to save the future of the country.
He added that it is not possible for those who crossed from the PDP to go back to the party, but that everyone has his own opinion on the matter.

Garba added that the speakers of the different state houses of assembly support financial autonomy for the legislature.
Also, Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Nojeem Salami said that the “legislators are the representatives of the people and that whatever they do is done on behalf of the people.”
The meeting was attended by 8 Speakers including Ekiti, Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, Edo and Sokoto.
