ABUJA—President of African Parliament and member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Bethel Amadi, has described as unfortunate action of the Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila and other members  of All Progressives Congress, APC, over the leadership tussle on the floor of the House last Tuesday.

Amadi in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, accused the minority leader of playing to the gallery.

Amadi, who represents Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency of Imo State, said what was necessary for his colleague to do was to officially move a motion calling for a change in the leadership structure of the House since he (Gbaja) believed that his party was the majority party.

He said: “What happened yesterday was very unfortunate because our learned friend, the minority leader of the House of Reps whom I have a lot of respect for was trying to bring in through the back door an issue which he could have brought up officially through a motion. He knows what the process is.

“He could have moved the motion on the floor to say my party now has the majority, we want to take over the majority leader’s position in the House and then we deal with it through the due process and nothing would have stopped him from moving that motion and then speaker would have ruled and probably called for the decision and then we would have done the needful.

“So, why would he introduce it in the middle of a motion that has no relationship with the issue? So, you can see that it is just an attempt to play to the gallery.

I would think that as a Parliament, we have reached a stage where people need to begin to follow due process and respect law and order. And that way we can build a better society.”
