Yenagoa—The crisis rocking the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State has taken a new twist as the management of the institution, including its Rector, Dr. Ineyi Ekpebu, have been summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Ekpebu was summoned to appear at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of investigations into alleged financial scam involving the institution.
Ekpebu was also directed to come along with the institution Bursar, Mr James Neminebor, Head of Audit, Mr Denson Ojibare, Abadani Woyengikuro, Zachariah Owutuamor.
The affected officials were directed to appear before the commission on January 30, 2014.
Counsel to the institution’s chapter of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic, SSANP, Mr Festus Keyamo, had last year petitioned the EFCC over alleged cases of unpaid allowances, salaries and diversion of funds into private accounts.
According to the letter of invitation dated January 20, 2014 with reference number CR:3000/EFCC/PHC/EG/TC/Vol.1/54 signed by Zonal Head, EFCC, Mr. David Inyang, the Rector and others would be questioned by the officer commanding, Economic Governance.
The letter addressed to Ekpebu read “This Office is currently investigating a case involving your school in which the need to obtain certain clarification from you and some of your officers have become imperative.”
The EFCC also directed the invited officials to come along with list of staff from 2009 to date (academic and non academic) showing age, sex, state of origin, LGA, date of first appointment and last promotion, grade level/step, rank and date of last posting.
