Chairman House Committee on Petroleum Downstream, Mr Dakuku Peterside, has said that the directive given by the national leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, to boycott the passage of the 2014 budget in the National Assembly was in the right direction, aimed at putting a stop to lawlessness in the country, particularly in Rivers State.
He also said the directive was necessary to put an end to impunity that is going on in Rivers State.
Speaking to Vanguard, he said APC cannot appear to be helpless in the face of impunity going on presently in the state.
“This impunity must stop because it is not part of the democratic culture of this country. I am in full support of the directive by the national leadership of our party that we should boycott the passage of the budget. I fully support it and will join others to fully comply with the directive because the height of patriotism is to respect the law under which you are elected.
‘’If you don’t respect the law which is the foundation of democratic society, then there is no basis for democracy itself,” he added.
He, however, maintained that all progressives in the country must rise up to condemn what is happening in Rivers State.
