17 pro-Amaechi lawmakers sit at Rivers Govt House

PORT HARCOURT – Seventeen pro-Governor Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers sat, yesterday at Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and considered three bills.

At exactly 11.04, the Speaker of the House, Mr Otelemaba Amachree, walked behind a mace conveyed into the venue of the sitting.   After the opening prayer, Deputy Leader of the House, Mr Nname Ewor, moved a motion for commencement of business of the day, which was seconded by the Deputy Whip, Irene Inimgba.

Deputy Leader of the House, Mr Ewor presented the first bill, the Rivers State Waste Management Agency Bill, 201 (HA.2).  And after he finished reading same, the Speaker, said the first reading had been taken. It was the same approach after the second and third bills were read out.  The second and third bills are Rivers State Customary Court bill, 2014 and Tax Levies Harmonisation Bill, 2014.

The House later adjourned to Wednesday January 29.

The Speaker, Amachree, who later fielded questions from newsmen, said no constituency in the state was being shut out in the activities of the House, noting that  it was not mandatory for every member to attend every sitting of the House.

Meantime, one of the anti-Amaechi lawmakers, Mr Martin Amewule, described the sitting of the lawmakers as a gathering of friends of the governor at Government House.

According to him, when the House was ready to sit, it would be at the chambers of the state House of Assembly complex.
