Former Green Eagles captain and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Segun Odegbami has said there is still time for the current Super Eagles to improve, as he believes the team lacks cohesion.

The former national team and Shooting Stars winger, who was nicknamed ‘Mathematical’ in his playing days, told Radio Nigeria that the current Super Eagles lack cohesion, as they are yet to properly blend.

“The present Super Eagles lack cohesion, they are a bunch of individual talents and skilful players and they can only make a good team in a tournament like the World Cup if they are properly blended,” Odegbami said.

Continuing, Odegbami recalled, “If you study the 1980 and 1994 Africa Nations Cup winning Eagles, there was strong understanding among the players, every player knew the position to be and get the ball at a particular time even if you close your eyes.”

Elsewhere, in his regular Sunday column, Odegbami commended the individual brilliance of the Super Eagles players, saying, “the strength of the present team is youthfulness, hunger to succeed, unity and discipline in the team, the players’ enthusiasm and athleticism.”

Odegbami, however believes to succeed at the World Cup, the team needs more technical depth and tactical discipline.
