BENIN CITY—THE Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, in the South South, yesterday lamented the deplorable state of roads in the region and appealed to the Federal Government to find solution to the problem.

The zonal chairman of the association, Mr. Sammy Akano who lamented this during the maiden inauguration of the Edo State branch executives led by Anthony Oz-Iziduh, regretted that investors in the transport business in the region are pulling out due to the bad state of the roads which according to him is causing accident and deaths on daily basis.

Disclosing that the association would ensure the proper regulation of the activities of truck owners in Edo State in collaboration with the state government, he called on the Federal Ministry of Works to expedite action on the deplorable state of Nigeria roads which he said, posed a great danger to truck owners across the country and the South South in particular.

Akano who also disclosed  that the association had been involved in the training of their drivers through partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in order to minimiSe the rate of road accidents.
The newly sworn in chairman, Oz-Iziduh, while thanking members for his election, commended the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion for his support and contribution to the take off of the body in the state.
