OWERRI—The Chairman of Amawom Welfare Association, AWA, Owerri, Chief John Mark Igwe, narrowly cheated death as bullets fired at him by suspected assassins missed him by divine intervention.

Narrating his ordeal to newsmen in Owerri, the badly shaken AWA chairman recalled that cabinet chiefs of Owerri Traditional Council were invited for a meeting by the royal father, Eze Emmanuel E. Njemanze.

“Top on the agenda at the meeting was the election of a new executive of Owerri Community Assemby. The meeting ended on a fine note and we all left for our respective homes,” Chief Igwe said.

According to the AWA chairman, he picked the Village Head of Umororonjo, Chief Tos Oparaugo, the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Ambrose Anozie (Jnr) and two female cabinet members, on his way home.

“I drove through the Bank Road into Tetlow Road. At Tetlow Road/Ekeonunwa Street junction, the two women disembarked. I was then left with Ambrose Anozie (Jnr) and Chief Oparaugo, who I wanted to drop at his Onumonu Street residence.”
