9 docked for stealing dogs in Katsina

KATSINA —  The Police in Katsina State, Tuesday, arraigned one Ngwana Lar and eight others accused of stealing two hunting dogs and causing grievous hurt to the dogs’ owner.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Babangida Shehu, told the court that the accused allegedly stole the dogs belonging to one Aliyu Sule of Karau village in Mashi Local Government Area in the state.

Shehu said the owner of the dogs had pursued the accused, who came from Plateau, to Mani road where he met them boarding a vehicle with the animals.

He told the court that when Sule asked for his dogs, the situation led to a fight, and he was subsequently injured.

The prosecutor said the accused were standing trial for criminal conspiracy, criminal tresspass, theft and criminal force.

The offences are punishable under Sections 97, 263, 342 and 386 of Northern States Federation Provision Act, Cap 345 of Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Kabir Shu’aibu, granted the accused bail but said the surety must be a reliable community leader residing within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case to December 31.
